PROGRAM NOTE.

Commissioned by Brian Lips, Coming Home is a tribute to journeys, an anthem for the moment when you're back in the arms of your family after that journey. There's certainly an extra piece of grace in this work that mirrors its subject matter: Coming Home was written over the course of journeys in ten cities and five countries. It was a joy to write this piece knowing that it's a piece meant to help celebrate these fleeting but heavy moments in one's life. I hope it brings you towards memories of your own moments running down the driveway to greet your parent when they come home after a business trip, or memories of counting down the final hours to see someone you haven't seen in much too long, how that heart-full feeling of coming home is balanced by the deep solace of solitary travel. Thank you Brian, for your incredible story and for sharing it with me and letting me write about it.
